Libraries Development and the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) are developing a National Business, Enterprise and Employment programme in libraries.
It is known as Work Matters. It seeks to develop a suite of services that will compliment with those already provided by existing organisations.
Balbriggan Library has been included in the Dublin area initiative.
What is it?
A new business, enterprise and employment service at Balbriggan Library.
What will it provide for the Work Matters user?
- Business and Employment specific books
- Newspapers, leaflets and a jobs and information board
- FREE library wi-fi
- Work Matters assigned PC’s and iMac
- Printing, scanning and photocopying services
- Pre – bookable meeting room
- Access to FREE digital resources
(Business databases, online courses, eBooks and magazines, online language learning)
These facilities are also available to library members.
Library membership is FREE and open to everybody in the community.
- 400 courses on Universal Class covering a myriad of subjects that can be accessed.
(Career training, entrepreneurship, office skills and web development + much more)
- Vision-net database tool – ideal for job seekers and business people alike.
Jobseekers – Do research for upcoming interviews.
Business people – Do research on your industry, your competitors and consumers.
In 2017 – the library will be running a series of FREE events working in co-operation with local partners – topics covered will range from
- Computer classes
- Interview skills
- English language classes

The Summer Stars Reading Adventure has officially kicked off in Balbriggan Library. Pick up your card and start collecting stamps today!
Check out the Summer Stars website at www.summerstars.ie, which has lots of online games and activities as well as a range of animated ebooks. You will find a children’s books discussion board and interviews with well-known people about their favourite books. There are also helpful tips for reading and recommended titles by age group for children to read. The books can then be borrowed from your local library service. And it’s all free!
